Installation Practices, Bergen
Installation Practices / with Tao G. Vrhovec Sambolec
Nordic Sound Art workshop at the Academy of Fine Art, Bergen Norway nov.14 - nov. 18
The course aims to explore sound installation as a particular artistic practice.
Moving away from the sound studio and into a diversity of spaces and
environments raises key questions fundamental to sound art practices:
how does sound impart meaning toa specific space?
What technical challenges are encountered when
locating recordedor live sound into a given architecture?
How does sound installation operate to address a listener?
Engaging such questions, the course will be structured as alaboratory where students
will work collectively to arrange an audio system within a space,
to address the possibilities of spatializing sound, and to individually work with
sound materials in composing a final work. In addition, an introduction of live processing techniques
(through Pure Data software) will be incorporated, allowing an expanded understanding
of sound installation.
Futhermore the workshop will include a seminar with Brandon Labelle,
professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Bergen, and a public event November 18
