Introduction to AcousticsNSA Workshop at The Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen , Denmark.
December 6th -december 10th.
What is sound? The physics of sound, sound as medium, sound registration and recording. Descriptions of michophones, loudspeakers, transducers, Hydrophones, Coils etc. Furthermore the workshop will be dealing with room acoustics, and how to establish specific acoustic environments. Site specific audio fields, and much more. A small practical assignment will be given during the workshop. Our teacher is Eddy Bøgh Brixen. He works as an author and audio forensic. He has written numerous books (in Danish) about acoustics and audio technology.
Introduction to general acustics. the nature of sound in air, masking, equal loudness curves and basic digital sampling theory.
Continued digital sampling theory: Jitter, quantisation, Bit depth, Binary number system, HEX digits.
Microphone theory with demonstration of diferent michophone principles.
The whole of wedensday was devoted to student field recordings around Copenhagen, using various micophone types.
Some recorded fishs being fed at Danmarks Akvarium, other locations were the Copenhagen Zoo, and electromechnical recordings of trains.
Evaluation of the field recording made the day before. Continued lecture concerning directional loudspeaker principles, MS-Stereo recording, early microphone history.
