Monday Lecture by Dont Rhine from Ultra-red. Presentation Tuesday Workshop with Dont Rhine based on the theoretical reading of Paolo Freire. Title of workshop: From Theme to Thematic Universe Description: Encounters with art are frequently framed in the language of the theme. Either institutionally by the museum or by the artist herself, the theme is often formulated either as per the Latin "subject or thesis," or the Greek "a proposition, subject, or deposit". Theme as deposit invokes echoes of what Brazilian radical theorist Paulo Friere critically describes as the "banking concept" of education. Exploring Freire's thematic investigation as elaborated in Chapter III of the 1968 book, PEDAGOGY OF THE OPPRESSED, this workshop presented by Ultra-red's Dont Rhine explores critical notions of time, narration and subjectivity. Through a close reading of the text the workshop explores the ways his methodology challenges the temporalities, languages and relations in which relational or pedagogical and activist art are currently performed. How might a practice of thematic investigation lend concepts and tools to an aesthetic articulation of political struggle? During the day there were individual meetings with Mads Kullberg and Enrico Passetti from the Museum for Contemporary Art in Roskilde on the projects for the final exhibition Wednesday Continued the workshop with Dont Rhine At the same time individual meetings with Mads and Enrico. Thursday Some had individual tutorials with Dont Rhine. Everyone worked with their projects for presentation in the evening.
