FAQ
1. When do I apply?
You apply to be granted admission to the Master Level (or similar) at your own art academy. The deadline is the same as the regular deadline for applications to the MFA (or similar) at your own academy. This deadline may vary from art academy to art academy.
2. Where do I apply?
You apply to the programme through your own art academy. Your Art academy will recommend you to the Sound Art Programme admission committee. The committee will evaluate the recommendations from the material it has received from the art academies. You must have been granted admission to a MFA-programme or study-programme on a similar level in order to be considered for the Sound Art Programme.
3. Where do I send my application?
You send your application to your own institution. It is first of all your own institution that will give you admission.
4. What should be included in the application?
It is recommended that the application contains the following:
- 5-10 works/projects in visual or audio documentation
- maximum length of time-based works is 10 minutes
- audio-CD’s and DVD’s are accepted. Audiofiles on CD-R should be in either wav or aif format. Video-files in mpg, avi or mov format. Enclose information of which format.

7. Will I be a MFA in sound art?

Information about the courses, news and other relevant links can be found on the central website.
9. How long is the Programme?
The Programme lasts for 2 years.
10. Will I still be working at my own art academy?
Yes. You are formally speaking taking an MFA (or similar) at your own art academy. This is also where you are working on a daily basis. You are “merely” attending courses outside your own art academy.
11. What is a course-module?
A course-module typically lasts 2 weeks. It will be located at one of the 4 art academies, in Oslo, Trondheim, Malmö or København. During the course-modules you will be introduced to tools for sound-editing, have lectures in theory of sound, the history of sound art etc.
12. How do I graduate/are there exams?
An attendance rate of 80% to the programme-activities is required. Further you are requested to write a final text. The program concludes in a final exhibition. A final evaluation will be made based on your work.
